Many people will know that, for some years now, St Mary’s people have been supporting the Okangororosa school in Namibia both in material and financial terms
The intitiative for this support came from Janet Ashton and Liz Taylor-Jones who have organised much of the fund raising for the school and also been instrumental in getting consignments of books sent to Namibia – not an easy task as the school is in a remote part of the country.
Highfields Primary School in Lawford has become involved too (through its head teacher Hilary Cook, who is a member of St Mary’s choir) and has raised / is raising money for this project.
Recently St Mary’s treasurer received an email from Lukas Homateni Julius, one of the teachers at Okangororosa school, with thanks for the financial support received and attaching some pictures. These show how the school has now been able to complete the building of its library though it is still waiting for shelves to be put up.
The pictures are below together with some others, showing pupils and staff at the school.
