15 August Youth Pilgrimage ‘ReCre8′
O.k., so ‘youth’ was an elastic concept but at least it had the merit of being a short word! The ‘able-bodied young and young at heart pilgrimage‘ somehow just didn’t do it as a
title…but as an event it proved a great success!
People of all ages came. When the tail of the ‘crocodile’ was still at the sailing club, its head had already reached the cinder path that was the old railway track…. I exaggerate of course …. Or maybe I’m just running ahead because there were many requests to make this into an annual and more elaborate event so who knows, it may be next year’s understatement!
The last of the sunlight tinged the tops of St Peter’s remaining walls with gold as about 60 people gathered for a Bible reading and prayers that wafted up on the scent of the wild marjoram which grows abundantly inside the ruins. Songs floated on the evening air seemingly melding with the peace of the surroundings – a truly memorable Recreation.
The combined talents from the Wivenhoe churches provided the musical accompaniment to the singing; with a bit of a push this could be the makings of an local orchestra!
The walk back began as dusk fell and was completed in the dark without too much excitement – once Kieron was found again …!

Very good article about an inspiring and joyful event. Good to have a blog which helps to share!
A massive thanks to everyone who has volunteered to distribute the parish leaflet. All the Roads in our town are now covered, and delivery can take place at any time over the next two weeks.
There is so much happening at St Mary’s at the moment and it is good to know that ALL Wivenhoe residents are being kept in the picture!
